My career blog post is on a 2D animator.
What Is a 2D animator?
A 2D Animator creates drawings and animations for movies, television shows, video games, advertisements, and online content. They use digital software to create movement frame by frame and bring characters and stories to life.
A 2D animator designs character movements, facial expressions, and action scenes using programs like Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, or Photoshop. A typical day may include sketching characters, animating scenes, editing projects, and working with directors or other artists.
Important skills include:
Creativity and drawing ability
Knowledge of animation software
Attention to detail
Communication and teamwork
Time management
Majors that provide a person with proper training for this field include animation, digital media, graphic design, illustration, and possibly game art. Some schools that are known for their animation programs include CalArts, SCAD, Ringling College of Art and Design, and School of Visual Arts.
In conclusion, a career as a 2D animator is ideal for people who enjoy drawing, storytelling, and technology. It offers opportunities in entertainment, gaming, advertising, and online media while allowing artists to combine creativity with digital skills.
